BECOME AN ADI
An ADI is an advanced driving instructor authorised by license from the DVSA to give lessons and take payment for this service.
BECOME A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR
To apply for an ADI license, you need to be over 21 and have held a clean driving license for at least three years. You will need to pass a DBS check.
THE ADI EXAM
There are three stages to the ADI exam, and you will need to pass all of them.
Stage 1 – Computer-based two-part test; theory test and hazard perception test
Stage 2 – Practical test of driving skills
Stage 3 – Practical test of teaching ability
Being a driving instructor can be a satisfying and rewarding job. You are teaching an important skill that can transform lives and enables your clients to become independent. A driving instructor needs to be a patient and calm teacher. As most instructors are self-employed, you need to have some business expertise. Time management and account management are crucial skills to have for running a successful business.
